Organ Transplant Operations 'Evolving Remarkably' in Morocco
Rabat - Organ and human tissue transplant operations have evolved remarkably in Morocco, said the health ministry, noting that military hospitals and hospital centers have the necessary technical means and qualified human resources.
A total of of 460 kidney transplants were conducted in Morocco, with a pace that has accelerated dramatically between 2010 and 2015 with 220 operations, said the ministry in a statement on the occasion of the celebration of the World Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation celebrated on October 17.
A single heart transplant was performed, in addition to 13 liver transplants, 90 organ transplants of dead donors, 300 bone marrow and stem cells transplants, 63 cochlear implants to treat deafness and over 3,000 cornea transplant operations, the statement added.
The ministry underlined that fees related to these transplant operations are paid for by the basic medical coverage regime for people affiliated with the medical assistance regime (RAMED).
