France Congratulates Leïla Slimani, Winner of Prix Goncourt 2016
Paris – France extended its warmest congratulations to Moroccan novelist Leïla Slimani, winner of Prix Goncourt 2016 for her novel "Chanson douce" (sweet song).
"We extend our warmest congratulations to Leïla Slimani, winner of Prix Goncourt 2016 for her novel +Chanson douce+ and former student at Lycée (senior high school) Descartes in Rabat, where she had received her baccalaureate, before travelling to France to continue her graduate studies," said Tuesday spokesperson of French Foreign Ministry, Roamin Nadal, at a press conference.
The Moroccan novelist also received a congratulatory message from King Mohammed VI.
In this message, the sovereign extends his heartfelt congratulations to Slimani for this top literary prize, which is a recognition of the uniqueness of the novel authored by the Moroccan writer.
The award is not only an honor for you and for Moroccan women, but also an example of the competences, which our Moroccan community living abroad boast in the different fields, said the message, adding that the prize is the best encouragement for the writer to continue her creative work.
