Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika Appointed Vice-president of African Union
Rabat - Algeria’s President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was reportedly appointed vice-president of the African Union (AU) on Monday, during the 28th summit of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The AU has also elected Guinean president, Alpha Conde, as the new chairperson of the pan-African organization, succeeding Chadian President Idris Deby.
Conde has good ties with Morocco. On Sunday, he met King Mohammed VI during a royal dinner that the King chaired in the presence of the African leaders, ahead of the sumimit.
Elected the new Chairman of the AU Commission was Chadian Moussa Faki Mahamat. He succeeds South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, who was elected to the post in 2012.
