Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun Appointed Independent Director on Renault Board
Rabat - At the general meeting of Renault held June 15, the board of directors nominated Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun as an independent board director.
President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM, vice president of Mineral Waters at Oulmès, and one of the most influential women in Morocco and Africa, Bensalah-Chaqroun was one of the four women appointed at this meeting out of a total of six new directors. This strong female presence is explained by regulatory constraints that oblige the Renault group to have at least 40 percent women on its board of directors. The Renault Board now counts 43.7 percent women.
In a statement of the Renault group published the day before the general meeting, Bensalah-Chaqroun said she was “particularly honored” by her nomination as a candidate for the post of an independent director.
“I am delighted to put my knowledge of industrial and international issues at the service of the debates of the Board of Renault, a world-class automotive group,” she said.
Bensalah-Chaqroun was since 2012 the Director of Eutelsat, one of the largest commercial satellite operators in the world based in France. She had to resign from this position to be eligible for appointment to Renault in accordance with the French employers' code concerning the limitation of the number of directorships.
