Othmani Presents Latest Book to King on Distinction Between Politics and Religion
Rabat - Moroccan Head of Government Saad Eddine Othmani has presented his new book as a gift to King Mohammed VI ahead of its publication, according to Moroccan daily newspaper Akhbar Al Yaoum.
Entitled “The Islamist Prophetic Actions... A Temporal Study of Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in Imama”, the 370-page book is continuation of his thesis written for his degree at Rabat’s Dar El Hadith El Hassania.
In the book, Othmani defends the distinction between religion and politics based on the Prophet's actions, which religious scholars usually distinguish as being divided between divine relations, to which the Faithful have to submit, and the Prophet’s other actions as a political leader, which are subject to debate.
Othmani has published several books and papers on both Islamic studies and psychology, his other field of study. His popular books include “Jurisprudence of Political Participation of Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah” (1997), “Woman’s Issues and Psychological Tyranny” (1998), and his diplôme superior thesis in Islamic Studies at Mohammed VI’s Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in 1999, “The Actions of the Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him, with Imama Methodological and Legislative Connotations”.
He also released “Religion and Politics: Preference, Not Separation” (1999), tackling the political participation of the Moroccan Islamist movement.
Known as a bookworm from a young age, Othmani showed an interest in politics as a child and began working with Dawah O Tabligh, a group of Sunni Muslim evangelists and preachers. His father opposed his political bent, warning him against entering politics.
On March 17, 2017, King Mohammed VI appointed Othmani as Head of Government replacing his partisan colleague Abdelilah Benkirane who had failed to form government coalition.
